Business premises inspected at The Mall Gadong were found to be in compliance with the Weights and Measures Act 1983 and the Price Control Act following a joint enforcement operation carried out on December 23, 2025.
The operation was conducted by the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division through the Weights and Measures Unit, together with the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics through the Department of Consumer Affairs, under the Ministry of Finance and Economy. The inspection focused on business outlets participating in Brunei Salebration 2025.
During the operation, officers from the Weights and Measures Unit identified 23 weighing machines used for trading purposes. All the machines were verified, accurate and duly registered in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act 1983, Chapter 151, and the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994.
The Department of Consumer Affairs found that the inspected premises complied with regulatory requirements under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142. Businesses were observed to be displaying prices clearly and accurately, in line with the Cheap Sale Price Regulations and the Price Display Order.
Authorities also advised participating businesses to ensure that sales terms and conditions are presented transparently to enable consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.
Consumers, meanwhile, were reminded to check that weighing and measuring devices used in trading activities involving weight, volume or length bear a valid registration sticker issued by the Weights and Measures Unit.
Businesses were further reminded to conduct sales activities ethically and fairly, including ensuring that price lists and details of discounts are readily available at their premises for inspection by price inspectors, as required under Regulation 11(a) and (b) of the Cheap Sale Price Regulations.
