A 24-year-old local man was sentenced to 26 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to multiple charges involving criminal intimidation and possession of indecent images of minors.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif last December.

Mohamad Mazwan Safwan bin Jahari, was charged with four offences committed in September and November 2025, involving two underage girls aged 11 and 14 respectively.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Atikah Husaini revealed that on September 16, 2025, the defendant used a TikTok account to threaten an 11-year-old girl after initiating contact with her on social media. He intimidated the victim by threatening to damage her reputation if she did not comply with his demands, causing her alarm.

The prosecution said the victim initially believed she was communicating with someone of a similar age. After moving the conversation to WhatsApp, the defendant made demands for photographs and later issued threats when contact was cut off. The child eventually informed her mother, and a police report was lodged the same day.

The court was further told that police investigations led to the arrest of the defendant, who admitted to instructing the victim to send photographs and using threats to intimidate her.

The second and fourth charges related to criminal intimidation of a 14-year-old girl on September 19 and 20, 2025. The defendant contacted the victim using a separate TikTok account and posed as another person before issuing threats intended to frighten her into compliance.

The court further heard that the victim complied with several instructions out of fear that her images would be circulated. She later refused further demands and informed her mother, who lodged a police report at Sengkurong Police Station.

The third charge involved possession of an indecent or obscene photograph of a child.

Investigations showed that the defendant admitted instructing the victim to send inappropriate images and later resending the images to her as a means of intimidation, although he claimed he did not distribute them to others.

The court also noted that the defendant had previous convictions on record.
