Five out of 19 companies issued warnings by the authorities have been compounded for failing to comply with the Town and Country Planning (Composition of Offences) Regulations, 2018.The compounds were imposed after the companies ignored earlier warnings and were found to have committed offences including placing or displaying goods on pedestrian walkways and using such areas for vehicle repair activities.
The authorities said these activities pose safety risks due to slippery and dirty conditions, and also negatively affect the aesthetic value and appearance of commercial areas in the country.
The offences were identified during Op Kemas (OPKEMAS) operations conducted on January 19 and 21, by the Planning Authority under the Town and Country Planning Department.

Under the regulations, each offence carries a compound fine not exceeding BND500. Offenders are given seven days from the date the compound is issued to settle the fine.
The Planning Authority, through the Town and Country Planning Department of the Ministry of Development, reminded companies and owners of commercial and industrial premises to consistently comply with planning laws to ensure cleanliness, safety and the overall appearance of business areas are properly maintained.
