Attorney General of Brunei Darussalam Datin Seri Paduka Dayang Hajah Nor Hashimah Haji Muhammed Taib attended the Chief Legal Advisors Forum 2026 (CLAF 2026) held from August 26 to 27 at Shangri-La Singapore.
Held under the theme “States and Investment Disputes – What Lies Ahead”, the forum brought together Chief Legal Advisors and senior government legal officials from 39 jurisdictions to discuss developments in Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) and international efforts to reform the system.
Discussions covered fairness, consistency and legitimacy in investor-State arbitration, States’ experiences with ISDS, and emerging approaches surrounding the proposed Multilateral Investment Tribunal (MIT) being considered by UNCITRAL Working Group III.
The Attorney General also participated in the Heads of Delegation Roundtable, where participants exchanged views on current ISDS challenges, reform efforts, the characteristics of an effective MIT, inclusiveness in dispute resolution and broad participation in the reform process.
Brunei Darussalam’s participation provided an opportunity to exchange views and experiences with other participating States and follow developments in international investment dispute settlement.
The Attorney General was accompanied by senior officers from the Attorney General’s Chambers of Brunei Darussalam.
CLAF 2026 was jointly hosted by Singapore’s Ministry of Law and Attorney-General’s Chambers, following the inaugural forum held in Singapore in 2024.
