Local man fined BND7K for possessing cigarettes

A 20-year-old local man was fined BND7,000 after being convicted of possessing various types of undeclared cigarettes.
Muhammad Azrul Aqmal bin Yusman would have to serve 7 months’ jail in default of payment of the fine, after he pleaded guilty on September 10 to the charge under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006 for possessing eight cartons, two packets and 19 sticks of cigarettes without lawful authority.
The Customs prosecutor informed Magistrate Nur Eleana Dato Paduka Haji Hairol Arni at Kuala Belait Magistrates’ Court, that the offence occurred on November 3, 2025 at about 7.40pm at the arrival section of Sungai Tujoh Control Post, Kuala Belait, where the cigarettes were detected by Customs inspection officers.
The cigarettes were also ordered to be forfeited to the Government for disposal.
