A company in Brunei Darussalam has been issued a compound fine for using a building apron to store used tyres, despite warnings from the Town and Country Planning Department earlier this year.
The company was among five businesses warned by the department since the beginning of 2026 for breaching the Planning (Composition of Offences) Regulations, 2018, by using building apron areas for tyre storage.
The department said building aprons and landscaped areas were not intended for storage, as they were meant to support access to and from premises and provide space for pedestrian movement.
Using these areas for storage could disrupt pedestrian access, affect the layout and cleanliness of business premises, diminish the appearance of commercial areas, and increase the risk of mosquito breeding and fire.
Businesses generating used tyres were advised to manage the waste responsibly by providing suitable storage, such as cabinets or racks, and reviewing their operations to ensure public areas were not used for storage.
The compound fine for each offence is capped at BND500. Companies have seven days from the date the compound is issued to pay.
For enquiries, members of the public may contact the Town and Country Planning Department’s hotline at 8200222.
