Indonesian woman fined BND8K over smuggled health and cosmetic products

An Indonesian woman was ordered to settle a total fine of BND8,610 by the Tutong Magistrate’s Court today after pleading guilty to multiple customs offences involving undeclared health and cosmetic products.

Astutik, 47, would have to serve 16 months’ jail in default of payment of the fine.

Magistrate Syaffina Shahif heard from the Customs prosecutor that the charges arose from an enforcement operation conducted on August 24, 2023 at Kampong Serambangun, Tutong, by officers from the Royal Customs and Excise Department together with enforcement officers from the Ministry of Health.

She was found in possession of 350 units of dutiable health and cosmetic products, 609 units of non-dutiable health and cosmetic products, and 99 units of excisable health and cosmetic products, unlawfully.

The court imposed fines of BND470, BND8,000, and BND140 for each of the charges respectively.

The court further ordered that all seized products be forfeited to the Government for disposal.
