11 weighing instruments seized in joint operation

A joint enforcement operation at Muara Fish Landing Complex resulted in the seizure of 11 non-compliant weighing and measuring instruments.

The operation was carried out by the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) through the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), together with relevant government agencies, to enforce the Weights and Measures Act 1983.

Authorities said the inspection was aimed at ensuring all weighing and measuring instruments used for trade are valid, accurate and properly registered.

A total of 12 instruments were found in use, of which 11 were non-compliant — three with expired registration and eight that were not registered.

A seizure notice was issued and all non-compliant instruments were confiscated.

Owners have been directed to report to the SDT office within seven working days for corrective action. Instruments that have since undergone renewal of annual verification or new registration have been returned for trading use.

Authorities reminded traders to comply with the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994, particularly Section 3(2), which prohibits the use of unstamped or uncertified instruments for trade.Offenders may face a fine of up to BND1,000, imprisonment of up to three months, or both upon conviction. Non-compliant instruments may also be forfeited, and any transactions conducted using such instruments deemed invalid.
