A 47-year-old local man was fined BND10,180 after pleading guilty to possessing smuggled cigarettes.
Johari bin Jaraie would have to serve 10 months’ imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.
He was charged under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006.
Sitting in the Tutong Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Abdul Azim Othman heard from the Customs prosecutor that the offence took place on October 28, 2024 at a residence in Kampong Kebia, Tutong.
A total of six cartons and 51 packets of cigarettes of various brands were seized.
All seized items were ordered to be forfeited and handed over to the Government for disposal.
