Malaysian fined BND13K for possessing contraband cigarettes

A Malaysian man was fined BND13,000 after being convicted of possessing contraband cigarettes without a valid permit.

Lee Yau Fah @ Lee Siew Fah, 63, will serve 13 months’ imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.

Sitting in the Kuala Belait Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Nur Eleana Dato Paduka Haji Hairol Arni heard that the offence took place on June 18, 2026 at the Sungai Tujoh Customs Control Post, Kuala Belait.

A total of 159 packets of cigarettes were seized during the operation.

All seized items were ordered to be forfeited and handed over to the Government for disposal.
