Renowned Bruneian lawyer and arbitrator Professor Dr Colin Ong KC was among the speakers at Global ADR Horizons 2026, a flagship event organised by the Borneo International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation (BICAM) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The two-day event brought together legal professionals, judges, arbitrators and industry representatives to discuss key issues affecting the international business community, including investment arbitration amid political uncertainty, geopolitical risks affecting global trade routes, artificial intelligence-assisted arbitration, construction disputes, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations.
Among the topics discussed was the impact of geopolitical instability, including disruptions to critical trade waterways, and the resulting challenges for international investments and dispute resolution.
The event also saw the launch of BICAM’s Pro Bono Mediation Initiative by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun on July 24.
In his remarks, Datuk Seri Masidi emphasised the importance of ensuring access to justice regardless of an individual’s financial circumstances.
The event was attended by members of the judiciary, including judges from Malaysia’s Federal Court, Court of Appeal and High Court, as well as State legal officers, Malaysian and international lawyers, arbitrators and other professionals.
