Two local men were each fined BND55,000 after being convicted of possessing smuggled cigarettes and alcohol.
Muhammad Affan Zulkernain bin Berundang @ Dimas Anak Berundang, 31, and Mohammad Rafie bin Nokman, 29, would each have to serve 20 months’ imprisonment in default of payment of the fines.
The pair were charged under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006.
Sitting in the Temburong Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Syaffina Shahif heard that the offence took place on December 2, 2024 in front of Masjid Puni, Temburong.
The defendants were found in possession of 50 cartons of cigarettes and 24 bottles of alcoholic beverages of various brands.
All seized items were ordered to be forfeited and handed over to the Government for disposal.
