A 28-year-old local man was fined BND18,970 after pleading guilty to possessing smuggled cigarettes without a valid permit.
Mohammad Ikmal bin Mohammad Shaiful Baharin would have to serve 13 months’ imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.
Sitting in the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Muhammad Qamarul Affyian Abdul Rahman heard that the offence took place on December 11, 2024 at a residence in Kampong Selayun, Sengkurong.
A total of 18 cartons and 11 packets of cigarettes of various brands were seized during the operation.
All seized items were ordered to be forfeited and handed over to the Government for further action.
