Local man fined BND67K for possessing vape devices

A 24-year-old local man was fined BND67,000 on Thursday after being convicted of possessing 468 units of various types of vape devices without a valid licence or authorisation.
Awangku Mohammad Azman bin Pengiran Mat Jalani would have to serve 16 months’ jail in default of the payment of the fine.
The defendant pleaded guilty, before Magistrate Nur Eleana Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni at the Kuala Belait Magistrates’ Court, to the charge under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006 for possessing the vape devices without lawful authority.
The Customs prosecutor informed the court that the offence occurred on September 14, 2025 at about 4.30pm at the arrival section of the Sungai Tujoh Control Post, Kuala Belait, where the devices were detected by Customs inspection officers.
The Court also ordered for the 468 vape devices to be forfeited to the Government for disposal.
